Today…

Today I spent time with a precious and mighty woman of God praying for the women’s ministries of our church, made a bank deposit, worked on getting the oil off our driveway, did some laundry, pulled apart closets and scoured the garage looking for a strong box that I cannot find which contains some very important papers, sprayed some weeds, put “Shock” in our pool, chatted with my husband as he drove to different jobs in the Valley and planned dinner. Somehow, this day doesn’t feel like it’s part of the Christmas season…

Maybe it’s Arizona. Maybe it’s the tyranny of the urgent. Maybe it’s unrealistic expectations of the season. Maybe I’m just not anticipating the most special birthday ever!

I’m reminded, however, of what it may have been like for the shepherds tending their flocks, or the innkeeper overseeing his business, or the stable boy cleaning out the barn that would soon house the most important baby that was ever born! If they had known who was coming later that night, would their day have been different?

As I consider this, I’m reminded that this amazing little baby will return as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords… and we have no idea when that will happen! If He returned today, how many of us would be ready for Him? If He returned today, how many of us would be looking for Him?

What if He did return today? Something to think about….
