Have you ever truly thought about the beginning of all things? Maybe you believe that there was a chemical explosion and everything just happened. Perhaps you believe that there had to be more organization than that. Do thoughts about why and how and what and when this universe began send you reeling? If so, you are not alone!
There are many who spend their lives debating these issues. It takes faith to believe either pattern of thought. But I have a question for you to consider.
We all know that certain chemicals are unstable and may cause great harm if combined with other chemicals. We also know that there are chemicals which may not even be moved without fear of explosion. Here’s my question. How is it possible to believe that a combination of these random solids, liquids and/ or gases could create a stable, constant, rhythmic heartbeat or a completely enclosed gastrointestinal system? What about the amazing covering of skin that holds all the unique organs inside the body? Consider the ability that we have to see, hear, smell, taste and touch? Random? I think not!
How could any of us believe that we can create without first having a Creator… someone to show us how? Even in the process called cloning, there must be a DNA sample to pattern after. Chemists first need chemicals which were already here on earth… already created. A carpenter needs wood from trees to do his job… trees that are constantly recreated, every one after its kind. Each species inhabiting this earth is being reproduced every day… looking very much like its parent.
We live in a world of constancy, of consistency. Of pattern. Of genetic coding. Of DNA and molecules and quarks. The names and definitions that we give these wonder-filled scientific discoveries are ever-changing. Their Creator is constant. Each pattern placed in each seed produces another of its kind… not another explosion of matter and chemicals. It would be hard to develop relationships with other “clumps” who periodically self-combust. This Creator must have felt that relationship was important. If He didn’t, then why is this Earth filled with living things who want some sort of relationship?
I believe that His desire for personal relationship made Him want to create another, made in His own Image, who would want to share His thoughts and dreams. Another who could imagine and create after HIS kind.
It takes great faith to believe in a bunch of stuff… an already existing bunch of stuff… becoming a timepiece of precision and beauty in multitudes of species filling the earth, the sea, and the sky. It takes faith, coupled with wisdom, to believe that there is a Genius overseeing this universe, a Creator beyond all human standards, that we have named God.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1
And that’s what I believe…
